Wine Tasting Tour to Penedes Region
On their day off before playing the semi-final that they played against Germany, they decided to do one of our wine tours to one of the Penedés wineries, visiting some of the biodynamic vineyards of this region. Above a 4 x 4 the local guides were explaining the care of those vineyards, the type of natural compost they used … They visited the farm where there were horses, chickens, geese, … they explained that thanks to those animals of the farm and different aromatic plants, such as nettle, thyme, rosemary… they make the different infusions used to fumigate the vineyards.
Once visited the vineyards, we went to the winery where they explained the whole process of bottling both the wine and the cava.
After 2 hours, to regain strength and rest a bit, it was time for the tasting of wines and cavas. The winemaker gave the explanation and they make a tasting of 2 Gran Reserva cavas, two white wines and one cold sweet wine – ‘ICE-WINE’, accompanied by some ecological snacks.
To end the visit they visited the underground caves, where they explained all the curiosities of the cava and they gave us a demonstration of how to uncork a bottle of cava.
The Hockey players enjoyed their visit and the whole day doing wine tourism in the Penedes Region.
Days later they informed us that they won the WGMA World Cup, a very disputed final against Austria. Congratulations guys! We hope to see you again on another occasion and thank you for trusting Barcelona Discovery.

Review from the England Hockey Team
I planned this wine trip for 15 of us the before our semi-final game at the Grand Masters Hockey World Cup in Barcelona. The tour around the bio-diversity/sustainable and environmentally friendly estate was a great diversion, educational, interesting and such great fun. We were collected from our hotel in Castelldefels rather than having to get into Barcelona and driven to the estate where we were transferred to trucks to view the estate.
We had all done wine tours before but agreed this was probably the best.
Each group will have its own particular “events” during any trip…we made the most of ours and had an absolutely great day. Many thanks tour guide Melanie and estate guide Ariana.
