Montserrat is a unique mountain in the world, if you are visiting Barcelona it would be a pity if you don’t come and visit the Montserrat Monastery, located at 45 km from the big city. It is considered to be the cornerstone of the Catalan culture, history, nature, and spirituality. By the way to Montserrat, we can find Penedes region, a very typical region for vineyards
We will stop in Cordoniu wine cellar, where we will make a wine tasting tour. Codorniu is considered the cathedral of Cava, where we will find a very singular architecture (Modernist -style buildings) and landscape. You will have the opportunity to discover all about the winemaking process, from grape pressing to labelling the bottle. You will visit the largest underground cellar in the world with a small electric train. To finish our visit to Codorniu Wine Cellar we will make a taste of cava with our local guide.
We will carry out with our tour to Montserrat, where your guide will provide plenty of information about it all during the guided visit. You will see the atrium, where many events of the country’s history are depicted; the Basilica, inside of which sits the Black Madonna, and its outstanding façade. You will also see the 15th-century cloister and Santa Maria square.
At the end of the guided visit, you will have some free time for lunch or to visit the Monastery’s souvenir shop, get a cup of coffee, discover local cheese and honey from Farmer’s Market, or soak in the magnificent views of the famous Stairway to Heaven. Even so, you can choose to explore the Monastery further, ride the funicular which takes you to 3000ft above sea level, offering breathtaking 360º views, take the funicular which leads you to the Holy Cave. Or even discover the art hidden in the Museum of Montserrat, which hosts paintings by Caravaggio, Dalí or Picasso.
